John is from New Zealand and Sophia from the Ukraine . They met in London, got married in Ibiza and, after roaming the globe for a while, now live in Singapore. Their wedding day was celebrated at the beautiful villa Fata Morgana high on the hill overlooking the island. The first day of John and Sophia’s wedding. The day of the formalities, while the second day was reserved for a big party with all the trimmings. That’s a New Zealand tradition: the first day is all about the newlyweds, the second day is a kind of ‘thank you’ for all the guests to thank them for coming.” It was a wonderful wedding weekend, with many more traditions.

I have photographed many weddings but I have never seen the way how the newly weds cut the cake in a Ukrain way. They do not CUT the cake the SLAM the cake with a big piece of wood ! Luckily with a apron to cover the wedding dress of Sophie.

In one of their traditions, you have to drink vodka every time someone makes a toast, after which they shout ‘gorka’ as a signal that the newlyweds have to kiss each other until they have finished shouting. There was a lot of ‘gorka’ shouted that day, so staying sober was not an option for them.
Another tradition, involved breaking plates together by stamping on them. “The number of shards represents the number of children they are going to have. So that is going to be a lot of children.
